It’s About Time – Automatically Expiring ID Badges from DED

‘TempBadges’ from DED offer instant visual recognition of validity, without the need for closer inspection to check dates or times on temporary visitor badges. Once the pre-determined time built into the badge has passed, it is rendered useless thanks to the patented colour changing technology incorporated into the badge. No ordinary badge provides the security and benefits that the ‘TempBadge’ brings. The badges are quick and easy to design and printable from any thermal label printer.
Badges can be printed to include photo’s, name, date, time, even company logos – in fact, any information usually found on a visitor badge, only with TempBadge, it’s easier to detect forgeries or visitors who have outstayed their welcome.

‘TempBadges’ consist of two parts. The front part is a 70mm x 50mm thermal label available in 4 pre-determined time frames, ½ day, 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. The back part of the TempBadge is pre-printed with red stripes in time release ink which reacts to the label when the two come into contact with each other. Stick the two parts together and time will take care of the rest! The colour change is a gradual process which cannot be reversed and when complete the red stripes will show through to the label. The back parts are available in various colours and feature a slot allowing them to be easily fixed to a clip or lanyard.

The ideal printer for use with the ‘TempBadge’ system is the Star Micronics TSP828L, also available from DED. A dedicated direct thermal label printer, the TSP828L features a print speed of 150mm per second and print resolution of 203dpi. Interface options include USB, RS233C, Parallel and Ethernet.
