The Metrologic Genesis features mobile 'couponing', enabling scanning encrypted 2D matrix barcodes on mobile phones. Using this technology, retailers can issue targeted promotions, whilst the entertainment industry can provide admittance to concerts, sporting events, amusement parks etc. Using mobile phone technology in this way eliminates the costs associated with printing, distributing and processing paper coupons and tickets and speeds up the process of redemption.

Patented CodeGate technology on the Metrologic Genesis along with a centrally-located activation button support menu-scanning and other targeted-scanning applications, whilst superior motion tolerance ensures aggressive reading of bar codes at speeds of over 200cm per second.

Unlike other scanners with multiple on-board interfaces, the Metrologic Genesis has four dedicated memory banks - each one capable of storing full configuration settings for RS232, keyboard wedge, USB and 46xx RS485 interfaces. Automatic cable detection and configuration simplifies migration to a new interface by eliminating the need to scan programming bar codes.

Three additional patented technologies augment the unmatched feature set on the Metrologic Genesis. FirstFlash technology which, along with shielded LEDs minimises the intense flashing common among other area imagers and scans all standard bar codes on the first LED flash. CodeSelect which allows the Metrologic Genesis to capture up to seven bar codes and output data in any predetermined order and finally, TotalFreedom which offers unlimited possibilities for developing value-added custom application modules embedded directly into the scanner instead of the host system.
