Gift Cards

Overview

Introduction
An ideal way of marketing your business or your business’ services is through the use of a gift card, voucher card, reward card or loyalty card. The use of a gift card or voucher card means the customers expenditure is directly used for your business because of the initial purchase of the gift. Gift cards are a business model by which customers pre-pay a set amount of money to your business in exchange card or voucher card to use for your company’s goods or services. The customer may choose to use the gift themselves or give the card as a present so someone else can use the card. Gift cards and voucher cards typically have a barcode or magnetic stripe on the card which can be easily scanned, some gift cards etc may even be chip cards.

A retail establishment or a retail group will issue a gift card to a customer upon receiving a specific payment from the customer in exchange for the card, allowing the user of the gift, credit with the retailer. The card can then be used to purchase goods from the retailer in exchange for the cash value of the gift card.

What should I put on my Gift Card?
No personal information is required for a gift card. There are normally several cards available from the retailer of the gift card each with a set value - for example: £5, £10, £15, £20, £25 and so on. Gift cards tend to be pre-printed with the value of the card printed on them as part of its main graphic. The card and the credit value of the card are exchanged for goods or services from the retailer.
Gift cards, due to their marketing nature, are often pre printed and data encoded. Small runs of cards can be done on a retransfer card printer such as a Zebra P430i.
