Cash Drawers (tills or cash registers) are one of the most important parts of an EPoS System, as they are the one component which is replied upon to securely store cash, vouchers and credit card slips.

Two main types of cash drawers are available, the first is the traditional cash "drawer" type where the cash box slides out from the front of the drawer and the second is the "flip-top" type which fits into much smaller areas, for applications where space is at a premium. Both cash drawer types connect directly to any receipt printer with drawer driver and open when a command is sent to them from the PC via the printer.

Although the connector type is the same for most brands of printer, the wiring is different, it is then important to specify which printer the cash drawer will be connected to. Alternatively RS232C serial interface versions are available which connect directly to the PC.
