McLean Bookmakers Choose the Star Micronics TSP700II from DED

McLean Bookmakers is a family run business that was established in 1962 by A. McLean. The largest independent bookmaker in Northern Ireland with 60 shops, McLean Bookmakers have just completed a major installation of Finsoft's Margin Maker EPOS system across all shops and in a move to reduce customer waiting time, improve security in store and produce accurate betting slips, McLean Bookmakers have chosen the Star Micronics TSP700II from leading PoS hardware distributor DED Limited to complement their EPOS system.

In the betting industry, speed of service is of ultimate importance. Races and games are continuously starting, so the more customers that can be served in a short space of time, the better. Printing at 250 mm per second, the TSP700II fitted this application perfectly. Capable of printing receipts, barcodes, labels and tickets, it was the obvious choice for such a high throughput environment, the benefits of which are clearly visible to staff and customers.

Selecting the printer for its ease of use, Martin Hennessy, IT Manager at McLean Bookmakers commented that the printer was also chosen because there was “no need to try to feed the receipt paper through rollers and complicated paper paths with complex mechanics prone to breakage, just a simple drop and load.”

Also commenting that the TSP700II is “plug n’ play at its best”, McLean Bookmakers have found the TSP700II to be minimum effort in terms of full integration into the existing PoS system.

Betting slips are being printed by McLean Bookmakers to feature a copy of the customers’ selections (i.e. horses, football etc.), the potential winnings, McLean’s logo, a unique bar code and an 8 digit number for future reference.

The TSP700II receipt printer is the fastest printer of its type on the market, with a staggering print speed of 250mm per second. The TSP700II uses Star's simple "Drop-In & Print" paper loading feature and can accept paper rolls of 58mm, 80mm and 82.5mm wide on tickets of up to 150gsm. An external paper feed path for large diameter and fan fold tickets is included as standard. The TSP700 receipt printer has a host of extra features including two colour printing, wall and desk mount brackets, interchangeable interfaces and drivers for most operating systems.
