JC Rook and Sons are a well established, family run butchers who have been trading for over 40 years. With 13 shops across Kent, Rooks have their own production and distribution facility as well as food services department for supplying restaurants, schools, hotels and pubs. Having built their reputation on providing high quality meat and customer service at fair prices, it's no surprise that Rooks have won many awards for their work.

JC Rook & Sons are now saving thousands of pounds every year by using an ISEGA approved price tagging system from DED via Swale Business Supplies. Rooks have standardised on a 'plastic card' price tag system in all 13 of their shops across Kent. The system comprises of an Evolis Primacy printer which is backed by powerful software from CardExchange allowing Rooks to update and print their cards as often as they like in a fraction of the time it was taking to do them by hand.

With over 400 Kentish products available in store and online, this new price tag system not only make it easier for customers to see prices at a glance and make the counter display look good, but it also saves on costs that were associated with their old system in both time and money. Julie Rooks, Finance Manager at Rook & Sons commented “ This is the best investment we have made in a long time, this little printer has saved our company about £10,000 per year.”

Price tags on the Evolis Primacy can be designed using CardExchange software to feature pictures of the goods, the shop logo, price, barcodes or any relevant information necessary. Rooks chose the Evolis Primacy dual sided printer as they required a card printed on both sides - they print a PLU code on the back of each card so that staff can easily identify products.

When asked about the suitability of the Evolis printer Julie Rook commented “it is so simple and easy to use that it only takes a matter of minutes to print the tickets we need for all 13 of our butchers and deli counters” Julie goes on to say that “previously it took many hours per week to design, print and laminate the tickets ourselves” Price tags printed on the Evolis Primacy offer a degree of confidence never seen before in this type of environment. ISEGA approved for contact with food, the cards have been a real hit with staff using them on the front line. They have commented “we prefer these cards because they are easy to use, stylish and have a uniform appearance, they also offer a robustness in the cold and wet environment in which they are being used”.

The Evolis Primacy is a high-end id card printer that is easy-to-use, flexible and fast. When loaded with the Evolis cutting-edge encoding technologies, Primacy turns into the ideal solution to issue cards. Primacy supports any requirement in card printing and encoding, in medium to large runs. This is the perfect option to deliver transportation passes, payment cards, identification badges, as well as multi-feature cards. Primacy personalises colour cards in a record time. Up to 210 cards per hour for one side, and 140 cards per hour for dual-sided printing. The same machine can print on either one or both sides, and the dual-sided option can also be activated on-site. This flexible printer can also be fitted with additional options at any time, when magnetic and contact/contactless encoding are required.

CardExchange is in use worldwide providing a powerful yet cost effective solution which allows government agencies, universities, corporations, as well as small businesses to issue high-quality secure credentials. In practice, it frequently happens that companies use several card layouts that do not need to be redesigned very often. Consequently, users of card-printing programs, rather than a designer-oriented interface, need a simple accessible window where they can quickly select a card layout, find the correct employee or student, take a photograph and print their identity card. In many cases, in-line electronic personalisation must be done as well. Besides functionality for loading cards, defining fast database connections with powerful filters, performing simple card management, printing directly to Windows printers, etc, it is now also possible to create an internal view or query using CardExchange software. CardExchange also includes its own card-layout designer. From now on, issuing new identity cards need only take a few seconds!
